Save our emergency Coronary Care at Torbay Hospital
We believe the decision by NHS Devon to centralise emergency coronary care at RDUH Exeter is wrong and will endanger lives of some people who suffer heart attacks in South Devon. Please sign our petition below!
PPCI is Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, and it is a procedure, also known as angioplasty or coronary angioplasty, used to treat blocked or narrowed coronary arteries, often in emergency situations like heart attacks. NHS Devon want to move all PPCI services to Exeter - currently it is offered at both Torbay and Exeter hospitals.
NHS Devon says patients in South Devon will experience an average increase in travel time from 15 to 43 minutes. It says modelling indicates that only 1 in 181 patients would exceed 60 minutes travel time, “a risk judged acceptable when balanced against improved ‘reperfusion times’" (the time taken to restore blood flow to the heart).
As the MP for South Devon, I have expressed my strong opposition to this move at the highest level of NHS Devon.
The Coronary Care team at Torbay Hospital are unanimous in their opposition to this move, but their professional advice has been ignored by NHS Devon.
Save our Out of Hours Coronary Care
I object to the decision by NHS Devon to locate all PPCI services at RDUH Exeter.
